Rod made me so welcome when I came to 41 Club for the first time. He was the beating heart of the club and it was only at the beginning of this year that he allowed others to take on the burden of running the club. He was a fine man and a good friend to so many of us. I shall miss his ready smile and the warmth of his welcome.
Richard Woodger
A marvellous man, who will be sorely missed!
Bob Evans

It was my great fortune to have played Fly half to you

I am so sorry to hear the sad news about Rod.
We worked together in Barclays Liscard many years ago and remember him as a true gentleman.
I would like to send my condolences to Jill and all the family at this very sad time.
Phil Dobbing
Rod was captain of the 4th team when I made my debut at Wirral aged 16. He was one of a group of Players who made me feel welcome from day 1 and looked after me throughout my Wirral career.
When I was selected for representative honours after leaving the club I received a handwritten letter from Rod in his capacity as Secretary that was a true reflection of his character. I still have it, the handwriting most distinctive.
Whenever we met, whether it was at the club, the school Gate or at the bus stop picking up his grandchildren from school, he was always ready to chat.
He was one of the nicest people I have had the privilege to meet and in common with many others will miss bumping into him.
RIP Rod
Robert Harvey

He was my first friend on moving to Wirral, and a dear and valued friend of my family for 35+ years.
He was a ‘Legend’

Still can’t believe we have lost someone so special. The best uncle and friend we could have had. You were such an inspiration and role model to us all and will be dearly missed. Sleep well Roddy.

Very fond memories of Rod. A true gent who always has time to chat and show an interest in what I was up to. Lost count of the amount of times we got him out of bed to pick us up from the pub when we couldn’t get a cab. An example of what a caring and considerate man he was. He’ll be missed.
Bob and Carole McWilliams
