I always looked forward to seeing Roy and I will remember him as a genuinely warm and friendly man. He would always ask after the family and take a genuine interest in our lives, especially our holiday plans.
I will always remember how appreciative he was. Whenever I sent a roast dinner home for him with Lorraine he would pass on his thanks. His gratitude says a lot about the sort of man he was. He will be remembered with great affection xx

I was fortunate enough to see Mr Saunders (Roy), only a few weeks ago at St Winefride’s church. The Saunders family had kindly, arranged a mass for my brother. I was so pleased that I had had this opportunity to meet with him, prior to his sudden passing. Meeting him again was like old times, sharing many happy memories, remembering how our families grew up together. Such a kind, gentle man, who was such a big part of our family life. May you rest in peace.

Uncle Roy what can I say gentleman gave me my first job never looked back still grafting always will earn your own money like he did had nothing but made a business a respected business man him self and two brothers well he was kind another of are cousins had asthma but needed to see a special doctor Roy was there John has never forgotten well he met aunty Marg and she fell in love with the best man in the world he was so gentle so polite and always honest the most honest man I knew thanks Uncle Roy you made my path in life. Roy was an exceptionally warm, generous and helpful friend whose kindness touched everyone who knew him. He was always willing to listen, offer thoughtful advice and lend a helpful hand whenever it was needed. My life is richer for having known him. MY DEAR, LIFELONG FRIEND ROY
Roy and I have been close friends almost all of our lives. We were in the same class at St. Anselm’s College and our lives have been intertwined ever since. In our teenage years, most evenings we spent walking for miles and talking. Roy loved quotations and one of his favourites was from Shakespeare’s play “Julius Caesar.”
Marcus Antonius, standing over the body of Brutus, says;
This was the noblest Roman of them all – He only, in a general honest thought and common good to all made one of them. His life was gentle; and the elements so mixed in him, that Nature might stand and say to all the world, “this was a man!”
Roy hoped that when his time came, someone might be able to say the same about him. I can! Roy was an honourable man and a faithful friend.

To my Dad you were his friend, his constant support, and a loving brother
A life well lived – a bond like no other.
There through the highs and always the lows in business and in pleasure, there was never a doubt through thick and thin you would always stand together.
And suddenly this happened leaving us so lost for words
But we know now you must rest,
I shall never forget you and your kindness, to have you as my Uncle I do feel truly blessed.
As we raise a glass in your honour the songs will be sung and the stories told keeping you somehow near,
I shall remember your smile and those last words you said of which I will forever hold dear.
Now your ‘Saunders Magic Carpet’ awaits, as you leave us with memories to treasure,
Promise me this, in true ‘Saunders style’ have one for the road and one for good measure.

I met Roy and Jim 1977 in the Clegg Arms, Heswall. They took me under their wings like their little lost brother from Ireland. Jim you have lost your most wonderful brother and Margaret and family have lost wonderful Dad and husband. I have never forgotten your kindness and friendship.

Roy was Such a gentleman always remembered and sincerly asked about my family, I often passed him on my way to work while he was on his morning walk always looking impecablly dressed and ready for the day ahead….but I will always remember him for the Magic Saunders Carpet stickers … always a wounderful addition to any sticker collection!
