Please accept my condolences at the loss of Patrick. He was a very fine man. I knew him via Riverside Players and Hillbark Players and enjoyed his insights and experience. I apologise for not being able to attend his service but I will be filming that day. Given Patrick’s love of the arts, I hope he would approve.

Apart from a good working relationship in the Libraries and Museums section of CCC when we both worked at their headquarters on Hoole Road in Chester we also shared an interest in the theatre. I remember that Patrick directed plays which were produced at County Hall and that I saw his production of Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible there.
During this time, in the 1970s and 1980s we went to several theatrical productions up and down the country, even to Stratford and London theatres. The highlight of these visits, for me, was seeing the acclaimed production by Glyndebourne touring company of Benjamin Britten’s opera A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This magical production was staged at The Palace Theatre in Manchester and is one that I shall remember for my lifetime.

Thank you, Patrick, for sharing your love of the theatre with me at that time.
